My grandpa’s place.

I wanted to call this post my other village but a friend sadly reminded me of how much people fear and hate, actually dread the word village. All these are pictures I took while there.

My uncle’s place.
My grandma’s other house, she rarely visits it nor even goes there. But it’s beautiful that she would want to keep that compound alive in a way.

I went to the NIRA offices to get an ID but they told me to return on Thursday. So I took the time to visit the village with my cousin sister, Response. And yes, her name is indeed Response.

I hadn’t gone there in years, most of the buildings that were actually there yrs ago have been removed and in their place, new houses are being built, I think no one lives in my grandpa’s compound anymore. I got to take a look at my grandpa’s grave, he lived in 1941 – 2011. I remember the day of his burial because I had to come from school, I was in primary five and probably just 10 or 9 yrs old then, my siblings actually don’t remember that much about my grandpa but I remember the mangoes he used to get for us. I also found out he wasn’t exactly called Valentine, the name was made more villagish , Mweru Valantino.

Today I also discovered he had Four wives and alot of land. My grandma, okay let’s say my Father’s mom was his first wife. I know this is Africa and our normal definition of four wives is a nice compound with four wives who all respond to you. But though my grandma wasn’t divorced, I don’t even know if they were wedded in Church, all I know is she didn’t stay with him until the day he died, leaving is actually a common trait, though legal action wasn’t taken, they live apart , she left and lived elsewhere on her own. That compound with four wives working together or haunting each other never ever happened.

Having four wives and around seventeen kids means a very huge family, and it’s no wonder I have never even heard of some of my real close family members. And it also explains the constant fear of being poisoned, bewitched or murdered among family members when I was a little girl. I mean with step mothers, alot could happen, practically even as children, you never really get access to your father at all. But I don’t know much about all that.

I confirmed from my grandma that my dad and my Uncle Anthony are twin brothers though they don’t look alike. And that my Uncle Matthias is actually not my dad’s brother but Cousin brother. And obviously I took alot of photos.

On my way back home I visited a local library for the first time, I visited my grandma for the first time this holiday. And we talked about her friend who has just died recently, Veria , I looked at old photos and discovered besides being teachers, those two ladies also acted in dramas and plays alot. Mrs Veria was a constant church goer, the Roman Catholic church, she was one of the pioneers of the women’s guild in my village, she was my childhood friend Joy’s grandma and my young brother’s nursery teacher. We went to her place to get mangoes and play on the instruments there alot of times. But I had taken like seven yrs without visiting her and now she’s gone. I discovered my cousin brother Simon got 20 aggregates in P.7, for a boy in the village, that’s good , hope he joins high school soon. My grandma also told me that Mrs. Veria was a very lonely old lady and none of us actually took time to visit her, and that she never left her house except when going to Church, and that a snake had once bitten her and she was so afraid of so much, she said we ought to visit old people more often, they too get lonely. Also I found out why everyone kept saying my grandma is sick, she told me she was diagnosed with Pressure in 2009 and has been on medication since .

the creepy tree with alot of caterpillars

I promised my grandma that we would go back on Sunday to clean her glass windows. Hopefully my siblings will join in. I also took milk at her place and a soda and chapatti in the village, so I think it was quite an adventurous day.

The gravesite. (The first grave is for my grandpa).

You know, if it were possible, I would agree with what the World calls Justice. I would hope that only the worst of people like Adolf Hitler got to hell. But for the redemption of mankind, the Greatest one, the Holy One was crucified. So clearly only the Perfect Ones Or those graced by God only make their homes in heaven.

I love nature (all heaven declares the glory of the Risen King)

Now Christ does look like the Judge, in a way, yes, he did clearly tell us he had come to Judge the World. But again, he came not to judge but to redeem remains forever True.

For people who care about numbers, I will say it this way, people are either looking to Christ to come, or looking back to receive forgiveness . Let’s say it this way, Jesus draws the line using Himself as the measure. But if he existed not, there would be no line to draw, all would be Sinners headed for Hell .

My village, I guess they indeed have alot of rice.

Only Enochs , Abels, Noahs, Abrahams, Isaacs, Jacobs, Moses, Elijah and Daniel would be destined for heaven, and those ain’t many. Let me tell you one common trait among all those, they are Chosen by God. So not much has changed, though grace is now so honestly available for all, Still Only the Chosen Ones of God Find the Truth.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate." Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 - 24.

So the gospel is so simple that the shepherd or uneducated peasant can come to know the Truth. But also so intelligent, no one saw it coming, it’s great genius, that even the philosopher can get it. But both can also miss it.

That tree just looked beautiful.

But to those whom God has Called. Humble yourself and pray that you be among those whom God has called when that day arrives. But never forget that there’s a promise that says that those who seek shall find, And that the Choice between life and death is still always in Your Hands. We shall preach the gospel, hopefully you will choose life.

I have something new.

A lesson many have learnt and I have had the grace to know of.

My dad just bought me a new phone. Well, it’s storage capacity is bigger so this afternoon, I downloaded a lot of songs. Suddenly I thought to my self, wow , I’m gonna have access to more of God.

Wait, I know, that came out all wrong, so wrong, More of gospel songs, podcasts , thousands of books , different bible versions , a million television sermons , don’t mean we have more access to God or more of God . They all literally just mean we have more God material, information on God.

This is the era of information, a lot of it and most of it irrelevant . But it’s also the era in which many believe this message was given to them ,to the Church today ; ” I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
So, because you are lukewarm —neither hot nor cold —I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
You say, ’I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. “Rev 3: 15-18.

Question is, how do we collect so much information and knowledge, only to get the verdict that we are lukewarm, I guess that means each of us should examine themselves. Information is not enough, we ought to be praying, seeking, preaching, sharing and Worshipping each day. After all we are the Ones who know the real golden rule in life, and it’s not that we do unto others like we want done to us, but that It’s all about God. All about God, We exist only For His Glory.

So, a church is going to be spit out because they are neither cold nor hot, and the World is still thinking they can get by with good works !

What we give up.

The God of Israel is the Maker of the Universe.

I used to think it so rude that for Christ,a muslim would have to give up religion, probably family and almost a way of life. But then I realized Christianity is all about taking the Right Turn for the first time. From it’s very beginning, God has demanded that much.

Do you know how much a passionate Jew like Paul had to give up ? His position in society, His religion, probably many of his friends, a good reputation worldly speaking ,most of what he had learnt his entire life , his pride and his freedom. Paul was more like the Islam Jihardists , so religious that he persecuted Christians, so we can’t imagine how much he gave up. And on the plus side, everything he gave up doesn’t even come close in worth to what he gained.

The branches are all rooted in Christ alone, or they cease to be, God is making one tree, not ten.

There’s no group of people that started out Christian after all, the disciples started out Jewish and only the people who have been born in Christian families have had a fair ground . There’s always a before Christ and a lot of times , it’s humanly speaking, seemingly better. I mean it’s better when we are blind, because then we don’t see the darkness we are headed into.

Olympus has fallen.

I read an assumption somewhere that Satan’s great plan could’ve been the gods of Olympus. That he assumed God was fading or losing a part of himself when creating man, so they would take the place of God and be the Earth’s rulers instead of men’s servants. That would mean the devil hoped he would mercilessly rule over us and we would worship him, and the gods would toy with us as they pleased, just like the greek myths show them doing. Well, we then should be so glad that God never changes because leaving us in the hands of Zeus and Hades would be so catastrophic.

Wow, maybe we know what the Devil’s plan partly was but that’s of no value to us. The plan of God is of value and we are yet to know it fully. But how glad we ought to be that Olympus has fallen and man has retained their glory as Co Creators.

Angels are gifted differently and a third of them fell with Satan. So it does make sense that Poseidon would rule the oceans, hades hell etc and they would rule where they were best gifted. But that meant man would become sport for their pleasure.

After all , Lucifer was jealous of man, atleast most tales say so. Having someone so eager to destroy you rule over you would’ve been hell on earth. But we are so grateful that God is Who He Is. We are no sport for the devil, we are the Children of the Most High, the Holy God and God of all Order.

So,even while we go around telling greek myths, we do know that the drought season doesn’t come because Persephone is in morning but because God is a God of Order and His great plan includes a season for crops to be harvested and dried, each season he did put in place for a reason and even while chaos comes in because the World is Decaying due to our sin, still we know He holds the whole World in his hands and He Remains Forever in Control. Not even global warming can end the world without His Permission.

I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the
stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on
the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above
the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High”

(Isa. 14:12-14).

Whatever matters most, you worship

That’s actually a natural and universal law, you will worship whatsoever matters most to you,you will talk of it most, magnify it most. The world is immersed in all sorts of things, one will talk of perfumes like you can’t live without them, another will talk of football like it’s bigger than life and it’s what keeps them going. Another will immerse themselves in the world of movies, know of all characters, trends and what Hollywood is up to next. That’s just what we do, we magnify things as pleases us. And at the end of the long talk of the English Premier league, someone adds that life is short and you should enjoy it. Sorry for spoiling the fun but it isn’t short, after death you will stand before The Throne of the Creator for Judgment and better be ready then.

We Christians are called to Magnify God, in human terms, to be obsessed with God, Passionate about God, spend most of out time seeking after him. We are called so that after the long talk of the Hollywood stars, we should say my life purpose is to Worship God and when all is said and done, let me be found Worshipping. I don’t know if I’m right on this one but I usually think this means we should be more interested in ministry, faith, charity , helping others and bible study. I usually think instead of spending time talking of the various perfume brands, we are summoned to spend time talking of the Only one who gives Fragrance to All things and adore him even in the midst of all these perfume bottles.

It’s like I always expect one to be playing a gospel song in their shop or to see a poster that says ,Jesus is King . I know only men do judge basing on the outside and God will be searching our Heart , yet still I hope to see visuals, and I’m in a dilemma because I don’t know whether it’s what God asks of us or it’s just my religious spirit craving it.

We are taught that what we will speak out is what our heart is full of so naturally if our heart is full of God,we should speak of God. But some friends of mine have made it feel impolite to always speak of God like we are not to carry thought of him into out daily dialogues. And it’s all just so confusing. I know no one is about to demand this but if we have come to God, won’t it follow that our Romantic and Detective novels will be replaced with Christian novels. Or that our secular movies might be replaced with Christian movies, (though I have sort of failed to do that for now, but the battle continues on) . Shouldn’t our secular and alot of times immoral songs be replaced with Christian God Glorifying gospel songs? Or indecent clothes with decent ones? After all it will nolonger be about what people might think or our moral ethics or family tradition but about God’s Will and God’s pleasure. Maybe the decision ought to be left to us ?

I’m not thinking of an enclosed kind of life or leaving reality behind or something like that. You will still go to work and continue with all the other stuff and it’s more of a question between you and God only. Maybe it should always stay only between you and God, I don’t know ?

He is the beginning And the end, But when we think of him , We say ,that’s backwardness . We say who is gonna choose boredom. We dread everyone knowing we are his servants now, we fear they will say we don’t know what life is all about. We fear they won’t invite us places or even share all things with us. We fear they will think us unintelligent, and foolish. We fear they will say we are ignorant . Yet we have an end. But then again, He forever Remains, The beginning and The End. He is the Ancient of Days, He was before days were, and he will be , when time is long gone.

It is hardly complimentary to God that we should choose Him as an alternative to Hell: yet even this He accepts. The creature’s illusion of self-sufficiency must, for the creature’s sake, be shattered; and by trouble or fear of trouble on earth, by crude fear of the eternal flames, God shatters it ‘unmindful of His glory’s diminution’. Those who would like the God of Scripture to be more purely ethical, do not know what they ask. If God were a Kantian, who would not have us till we came to Him from the purest and best motives, who could be saved? And this illusion of self-sufficiency may be at it’s strongest in some very honest, kindly, and temperate people, and on such people, therefore, misfortune must fall.

The Problem of Pain by C S Lewis.

Love went far, love goes far.

Love ought to be our business, Loving others, listening to them, helping them, being kind to them , serving them. But for me, all that is alot easier when I’m not at home. I can’t tell why it’s harder at home.

But like one person puts it, home is the place where you have to love after heartbreaks. It’s the place where people can learn to love all of humanity, To love even the impossible people, because you might get to see people as they really are.

Because, just like marriage, Home is the place where you are called to patiently stay even when nothing seems to be going right, we wait on siblings when only a miracle can save them.

We protect our own ,no matter what. Its therefore a greater shame when siblings turn against siblings and children against Fathers. But let us learn to love people as the avenues are provided, Its the second greatest commandment of God. And most importantly, Let us protect families.
